Faculty and Staff Circulation Policies

SCSU faculty may check out a maximum of 50 books from the CSU Library System (Central, Eastern, Southern, Western). SCSU Books circulate for one semester, with the option to renew for an additional semester. The other CSU libraries circulate their books for only 28 days. Library books are subject to recall after two weeks and must be returned. Buley Library does not charge fines for overdue books to faculty or staff. However, the other CSU libraries may charge fines for overdue materials.

Faculty can authorize a research assistant to check out books on their behalf by sending an official letter or e-mail message to Shirley Cavanagh. The letter should indicate the person's name and will be valid for a semester. You can renew for another semester but need to update the request with another letter. The faculty member assumes all responsibility for any lost or damaged material. Remind the person to bring their ID card when checking out books for you.

Contact Shirley Cavanagh at (203) 392-5768 or send an email to cavanaghs1@southernct.edu if you have any additional questions.

Photocopiers are available on two floors of the library. Copies cost 15 cents per page with your Hoot Loot card, or 20 cents per page with coins. Some of the first floor photocopiers will make change of $1.00 or $5.00 bills.

Return of Library Material

Library material can be returned to the circulation desk or the book drops inside or outside of Buley Library. The inside book drop is located on the left wall in the lobby, just before entering the library. When the library is closed, library users can return material to the book bin located on the outside porch of the library. Material borrowed from any of the CSU libraries may also be returned to Buley Library and will be returned by courier service.
