Circulation: Finding a Book on
the Shelves
If material can
not be found on the shelf, please remember these helpful hints:
- Verify the
call number from the CONSULS online catalog to be sure that the location code
says "SCSU" or "S." Make sure that the book is not checked out.
The bibliographic record should say "available" in the status field.
- The library
has special collections that are not shelved in the circulating collection.
Please note the following:
- The "O"
location symbol above the call number refers to oversized material. Oversized
A-N is located on the ground floor, adjacent to the periodicals collections.
Oversized P-Z is located in the right alcove on the second floor.
- The "JUV"
location symbol above the call number refers to juvenile material, located
on the ground floor. Follow the signs to the juvenile collection.
- The "REF"
location symbol above the call number refers to reference material, located
in the Reference section, on the left side on the first floor.
- The "CT
RM" location symbol above the call number refers to State of Connecticut
material, located in the Connecticut Room on the second floor. Contact the
reference desk for further assistance.
- The "X"
location symbol above the call number refers to special material located
in a locked area on the ground floor. Contact the circulation desk for further
assistance.
If the material still
can not be found, the circulation desk will conduct a search for the missing material.
A search form can be filled out either at the circulation or reference desks.
If the material is found, the library patron will be notified and the item will
be held for 10 days at the Circulation desk. If the material is not found, the
library will consider reordering the item for the collection.
For more help,
consult the CONSULS
Help Sheet or ask for help at the Reference Desk.
