Industry Profiles
You'll need to establish a PIN to access some of these resources from off-campus.
- American Consumer Satisfaction Index: Covers 43 industries in 10 sectors.
The quarterly commentaries analyze the direction of several industries.
- Business & Company Resource Center (Proquest)
Search by industry, or browse SICs or NAICS. Rankings are derived from Business Ranking
International. Overview essays of varying length are drawn from Encyclopedia of Business
and other sources. You can connect to company profiles from within the rankings. If you begin
by searching for a company, you can see them ranked in comparison to major competitors or to
companies fo your choice by clicking on the Financials tab.
- Business & Industry (FS) :
Select Industry Overview from the Article Type Phrase menu. Searches articles in trade
journals and newspapers but also contains full text Datamonitor* industry reports, both regional
and global.
- Business Source Premier (Ebsco): Use
Advanced Search and select Industry Overview in the Document Type menu. Full text Datamonitor*
reports for selected idnustries, available for individual countries and a global overview. BSP
also provides statistics from the U.S. Industry Quarterly Review, and articles from newspapers,
trade magazines, and journals.
- Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development:
Overviews of selected industry clusters within Connecticut including aerospace, insurance, and
tourism.
- Mergent Online:
Click on the Industry Reports
tab and either search by industry and/or region, or choose from the list of reports.
Browsing by SIC or NAICS + a country will result in an alphabetical list of companies engaged
in the industry. Select as many as you like and generate a comparison chart using criteria like
revenue, advertising, net income, location, and ratios.
*Datamonitor industry profiles include a list of the top companies in the industry, and assessment of market growth, market segmentation, and the competitive landscape.
