What is Genderwatch?

Genderwatch is a full-text online database of book chapters and articles from newsletters, journals, and other sources, covering gender and women's issues.

How to access Genderwatch on the World Wide Web:

Begin at Buley Library's Home Page (http://library.southernct.edu) and click on the "Online Databases" link.

If you are in the library or on campus, or have connected to a database from off-campus before, skip to the next step. If you connecting to a database for the first time with an off-campus ISP (such as SNET, AT&T, or AOL), click on the "Off-Campus Access Instructions" link and follow the directions about changing your browser settings and selecting a PIN number. Directions for browser settings and PIN numbers are also provided in our "Library Access from Home" handout.

Select Genderwatch from the Arts and Humanities Databases, Social Sciences Databases, or Full Text Databases menu.

Search tips for Genderwatch:

Type your keywords into the blank box.

The default search is for Words in Articles (checks the full text of the article for your search terms) but you can also search for, or limit your search with:

Reading results:

The list of results gives you the title of the item, the publication it's in, the date of publication, and the item type (book review, article, etc.).

Click on the title to see the complete article.

Use the buttons at the bottom or top of the screen to see more results.

Printing and Marking for Print/Export:

Print out individual records as you view them by pressing the print button on the browser menu.

When the dialogue box appears, press the "Enter" key or click on "OK."

You can also mark records from the results list by clicking in the box to the left of the titles. When you've marked all the ones you want, click on "Print/Export" and follow the directions on the screen.
